Winter Soccer
We’re making a few changes to Winter Soccer to make it more enjoyable for all. The key differences from last year’s program are:
Registration: Our entire scheduling system and the setting up of leagues and divisions depends very much on teams and individuals registering and paying on time. The sooner we have people committed by paying for the season, the sooner we can sort people into the divisions and make schedules so that families can make plans around games. Late registrations inconvenience everyone. We have decided to change our system to add incentives for early registration and payment and to penalize late registration and payment. A schedule of dates and prices is at the end.
Registrations are not complete until payment is made. With the way our online payment system works, you can still select “pay by check”, but you would have to pay by the end each registration period to enjoy that price. If the invoice is not paid then the price will change to the next registration level.
Small Sided Soccer: We try our best to separate different levels of players and teams to provide the most enjoyable and competitive leagues for our players. Our intention with last year’s program was to make the large fields available to Recreation players in Winter I and to Competitive players in Winter II. Part of the reason was the overall number of teams, but also because most fall recreation schedules finish by the end of October while travel and classic schedules can stretch until the end of November. The system seemed to work last Winter I with all the registered teams for big field play being at least nominally recreation level. However there were several teams that had a few travel level players mixed in their recreation rosters that gave them an advantage.
For Winter I 2008, no travel level players will be permitted to play on recreation teams. To give travel players an opportunity to play in Winter I, we are introducing small-sided soccer to be played during the late afternoons during the week so as not to conflict with travel games. Schedules will be spread across enough days to accommodate the different teams that might have either Tuesday/Thursday or Mon/Wed outdoor practice schedules. Play will be on the small fields and will be 5 v 5 for U12 and below and 4 V 4 for U13 and up. Registration dates and prices are below.
Rosters and Game Box Checking: We want to better control roster and box checks. We are creating a way for clubs to fund raise for their teams by volunteering for field marshal duties during our youth games. In exchange for a single shift of two or three games each week for each volunteer, the Field House will make a donation to that club or team.
